Cures for the common defect: new corrective procedures for qualified plans

Article Abstract:

The Internal Revenue Service's Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System provides four programs that could help employers correct several problems that could result in disqualification of employee plans. The programs include the Administrative Policy Regarding Self-Correction Program, The Voluntary Compliance Resolution Program, The Walk-in Closing Agreement Program and the Audit Closing Agreement Program. These programs can adress plan document, operational and demographic failures

Creating their own game: how Sonat Inc. measures its retirement program performance

Article Abstract:

Natural gas distributor Sonat Inc. has implemented a novel method for monitoring retirement program performance called, the "Retirement Efficiency Audit." The multi-million dollar firm's use of the program has enabled it determine how much employees would receive after retirement and how long they would have to work to amass enough retirement income. The program would also be effective in determining patterns of saving to further benefit employee retirement plans.

British Gas payments to directors rise 47%

Article Abstract:

British Gas increased the pay of its directors by 47% to 3.41 million pounds sterling in 1995. The salary and benefits of the chief executive, Cedric Brown, dropped to 491,226 pounds. Payment to two executives leaving the company accounted for half the rise in directors' pay. The non-executive director, Lord Walker, is leaving the company though he was offered an additional three-year term.Roger Boisser, another non-executive director, is also retiring.
