Customers give high marks to companies and agents: long-term policyholders surveyed

Article Abstract:

A survey of 1,000 consumers conducted by America's Research Group found that 92% perceive insurance agents to be trustworthy and 87% believe insurance companies support the customer interests. Consumers favored long-term arrangements with insurers, with almost 70% staying with their current life insurers for at least five years, 63.3% with the same homeowners agent for at least five years, and 58.8% with the same auto insurance agent for the same length of time. Customers disliked prospective customer contact.

Industry says it's no surprise

Article Abstract:

Insurance industry sources were assured but not surprised by results of a consumer survey conducted by America's Research Group that found that 90% of consumers perceive their agents to be trustworthy. Industry sources responded that cultivating personal relationships with insurance agents leads to a level of trust that will not easily be tarnished even amid spates of negative publicity. Consumer group sources, meanwhile, were dubious about the findings.

The redlining lie

Article Abstract:

Insurance companies and agents should market insurance more effectively to ethnic and inner-city populations in order to counter the public perception of redlining. A survey of 1,000 African Americans and Hispanics indicates that 95.7% of respondents had not experienced discrimination in buying insurance. However, 50.3% believe that insurers discriminate against minorities. Some 68.8% believe that insurance is a most or very important concern.
