Effective and legally defensible performance appraisals

Article Abstract:

Performance appraisals are a human resources (HR) management tool that can help improve employee performance and promote employee development. HR managers are faced with the challenge of developing an appraisal system that is not only legally defensible but also meets the requirements of the organization. In addition, they are challenged to train personnel on the proper and legal use of the performance rating process. Suggestions for developing a legal and effective appraisal system are discussed.
