Expert systems: the missing step

Article Abstract:

The success of expert systems depends on the developer's ability to capture the thought processes of experts. Capturing these thought processes is particularly difficult in the insurance industry because of the complexity of claims administration and underwriting processes. Developers should work with mental models during the systems development process. The steps in using these models to create an expert system include collecting background information on the experts and conducting interviews with the experts.
