Helping insureds cope

Article Abstract:

Independent life insurance agents should be aware of the ramifications of the failure of a carrier. Recent years have seen the failure of a large number of seemingly stable companies, such as Executive Life Insurance Co and Fidelity Bankers Life Insurance Co. Agents typically act as the conduit between the carrier and the insured, even though the agents may be divested of their commissions and their responsibilities by the carrier. Many problems, delays and hardships may be expected when dealing with a carrier in conservatorship.

Substandard, not inferior

Article Abstract:

Insurers need to be aware of the customer's perception when medical conditions are factored into the premium cost of a rated life insurance policy. A policy can be rated for various causes, ranging from high blood pressure to previous heart conditions. Prospective insurance customers, however, often feel they are under personal attack for their medical condition. Insurers should take care to remove this stigma from rated policies.

Life insurance is no easy pitch

Article Abstract:

The only major sport to have a life insurance program is baseball. Baseball's life insurance program was designed to overcome the insurance companies' reluctance to issue policies with high limits which could lapse before they or the reinsurers who back them could break even. Professional athletes' careers end or they transfer to other teams before commissions for traditional term life products could be recovered.
