Insurers venture onto the Internet Web

Article Abstract:

The Internet is attracting more attention from the insurance industry for its potential uses in marketing, market research, underwriting and processing of claims. The demographics of Internet users make marketing through the World Wide Web highly desirable for insurers, but lack of information security is still a cause for concern. Costs of using the Internet vary widely. Insurance companies with sites on the Web include MassMutual and ITT Hartford. Wesley Carey of C.A. Rauschenburg Inc. was one of the first insurance agents to experiment with online marketing. Carey receives 30-40 quote requests each month through the Internet.

Adapting to the Web: a new survey says insurers fare poorly online, but better days are coming

Article Abstract:

A 1997 NetSmart survey of insurance industry use of the Internet as a marketing tool shows that insurers lag behind other industries in both the number of firms using Web sites and the quality of those sites. Insurance industry sites often fail to provide online customers with adequate information and aggravate customers by refering them to 800 numbers instead. However, the survey did show that most insurance firms plan to launch new site before the end of 1997, which should improve the insurance industry's online presence.

Click, she said: insurers' online marketing strategies could use a woman's touch, according to a recent survey

Article Abstract:

Insurance companies have started to market through the Internet but have yet to make several changes to be more effective in marketing to women. A survey by consulting firm NetSmart revealed that women are finding online purchasing more attractive. However, only a few women intend to buy insurance online because the present transaction-based online marketing strategies do not appeal to them. Online marketing tips include the design of Web sites which are easy to navigate and the use of interactive tools.
