Is it time for a product rating system? Making the case

Article Abstract:

There are many reasons to support the creation and use of insurance product ratings. For example, insurance policies have traditionally been selected based on an insurer's financial ratings. However, such methods of selecting policies does not take into account the effect of risk, which can have pronounced effects on policy performance. A product rating system would help insurers, agents, financial advisers and customers to better identify those insurance products that best meet the needs of the client. Other advantages of such a rating system are identified.
