It's deja vu all over again

Article Abstract:

A new generation of vendors is offering new and highly functional agency management systems for independent insurance agents at attractive prices. The systems are touted as highly interoperable with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. The proliferation of new vendors is attributed mainly to the effect of traditional vendor pricing on smaller agencies planning to upgrade or automate for the first time. Another factor to their growth is the growing importance of the regional airline market.

The year 2000 is a problem for more than mainframes

Article Abstract:

Computer-reliant companies including insurance firms are challenged with the problem of upgrading all the programs they use in which the date matters. Such programs use the last two digits of the year to store and process date information, and the Gartner Group estimates that $60 billion will be spent solely on adjusting these two numbers. It would be wise for insurance companies to call their vendors and ask if their system version has year 2000 problems.

How to make imaging work for your agency

Article Abstract:

Insurance agencies can boost their administrative productivity by 20%-40% by installing the best imaging equipment to create a 'paperless office.' Agencies that are looking to the long-term will benefit the most, as the initial investment is expensive. Washington State's Dept of Labor and Industries is implementing such a system to save about $10 million annually in its 26,000/day paper processing routine.
