Job Stress and Job Performance Controversy: An Empirical Assessment

Article Abstract:

Stress may be linked to physical and mental health, heart disease, absenteeism, turnover, and/or job satisfaction. In this study, data was gathered from 440 nurses who worked in Montreal, Canada hospitals. The questionnaire used measured job stress, job performance, employee's effectiveness, turnover and commitment. The job stressors role conflict, role overload, and resource inadequacy were found to be related to job performance, motivation, and patient care in a negative way. Role overload and role conflict were related to absenteeism, tardiness, and turnover in a positive manner. Therefore, management should reduce role ambiguity, role conflict, and resource inadequacy to improve nurse's results.

Banking on a profit

Article Abstract:

There have been rapid developments among UK banks and building societies over recent years, including the launch of a wide range of new services. All the leading high street banks now offer telephone banking services, for example, and customers who remain in credit can now generally enjoy free banking. However, most still have only limited opening hours, and their charges on unauthorised loans remain high. It has now become more difficult to find independent financial advice on the high street.
