Legislative scene

Article Abstract:

Congress' failure to pass the health care reform bill implies that the weaknesses in the legislative system have grown to a debilitating size. One weakness is the way major legislation may be appended with minor legislation. It only proves that legislation can not stand on its own and inhibits the passage of legislation. Another weakness is its inability to resist the pressures of immediate and widely ranging interpretations and views by media. Health care reform failed in its claiming that it would address the issues concerning the public.

Health care at the traffic circle

Article Abstract:

A summary of the various approaches to managed competition in US health care reform is presented, using the analogy of many roads that simultaneously converge on a traffic circle and extend outward from it in different directions. The overview reviews basic elements of the Jackson Hole plan, the Assn of Private & Welfare Plans proposal, the Health Insurance Assn of America plan, the American Medical Assn program and Sen Ted Kennedy's plan.

Will we ever have health care reform? Do we really want it?

Article Abstract:

Observers are skeptical about the implementation of a cost-effective, accessible and affordable health care system. State-imposed pension and health care plans have only caused confusion among employers, families, physicians and hospitals. Observers believe that health care reform should address issues concerning managed care plans, Medicare/Medicaid costs, insurance market reform and malpractice liability.
