President-elect seen as less friendly to industry

Article Abstract:

The insurance industry is carefully watching the upcoming insurance and economic policies from President-elect Bill Clinton. Any universal healthcare reform that Clinton enacts will affect insurance carriers. Additionally, Clinton may also tax US income from foreign companies. This could hurt foreign insurance companies with US divisions. In addition, Congress will have many new pro-insurance industry members, such as Earl Pomeroy, a former state insurance commissioner and past-president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

It's up to agents to define their roles

Article Abstract:

Independent insurance agents must redefine their distribution strategies in response to the effects of industry automation. Independent agents must choose between an expertise-driven delivery system, which emphasizes quality, and a production-oriented system, which focuses on quantity. The system choice should be tailored to the needs of the carrier, agent and consumer.
