Relevance of the six-week postnatal check

Article Abstract:

The postnatal check performed at six weeks should be reassessed in terms of timeliness, content and relevance to each woman's individual circumstances. Since it is the last medical check made following delivery, it is important that any examinations carried out are appropriate to the delivery and postpartum symptoms. The study shows that vaginal and abdominal examinations, blood pressure, smear and urine tests are typical procedures. Women who had elected to have a caesarean operation are given a vaginal examination less frequently than those who have had an emergency operation.
