Sales of new life insurance policies has slowed as the largest insurance companies settle claims and lawsuits due to allegedly deceptive sales practices. Class action suits targeting Prudential, MetLife and New York Life have affected the entire life insurance industry by eroding the public's trust. Sales declined from 1992 to 1995 as insurers reviewed sales literature and trained sales managers.
