Getting instant answers can be a slow process

Article Abstract:

The Insurance Regulatory Information Network (IRIN) is developing its Web site which provides information on disciplinary and licensing records of insurance agents, brokers and companies. Being in its development stages, the Web site still has several weaknesses and areas for improvement. Testing of the Web site's Producer Data Base features revealed some limitations of searching capabilities. IRIN gets its data from the Regulatory Information Retrieval System. Several companies are waiting for the Web site to acquire critical mass of data before using its online searching services.

Balanced research vital to product development

Article Abstract:

Insurance companies need to find a balance between competitor and marketing research as a basis for developing their products and services. Departments that are charged with carrying out these different research functions need to coordinate their activities to better satisfy under-served consumer needs while maintaining up-to-date products. The tremendous analytical possibilities opened up by information technology make it doubly necessary that companies remain focussed in their research applications.

Canadian market tiptoes into the electronic age

Article Abstract:

Improving customer service through point-of-sale service by agents and client-oriented systems is a priority for Canadian insurers. In a survey of 22 life/health insurers and 68 property/casualty insurers, most insurers indicated that they are likely to use 800 numbers, electronic mail and client server/local area networks to service their clients and maintain internal operations. US insurers are more likely to embrace new technologies, due to increase competition from alternative insurers.
