Special delivery for PC agents: life products

Article Abstract:

Property/casualty insurers are cross selling life insurance products to existing clients. Small business commercial accounts and persons concerned with retirement planning are key markets for insurers. Cross selling allows insurers to retain valuable customers while eliminating the costs of seeking additional clients. Insurers increase client retention/renewal rates by 70% or more by selling addition insurance products. However, investment bankers are concerned that many property/casualty insurers lack the knowledge to sell life insurance products.

A love affair with rural agents

Article Abstract:

National insurance companies are attempting to increase their underwriting activity in rural areas by appointing independent insurance agents. Using independents enable insurers to control their entry into rural markets and also increase the business opportunities for small independent agencies. National insurers are seeking an increased share of the rural market because underwriting losses tend to be lower and rural towns usually have no history of catastrophic disasters.

Putting a new lid on cleanup costs

Article Abstract:

Insurers are beginning to take advantage of environmental cleanup methods that are faster and less-costly than traditional methods. Spurring this trend is regulatory agencies' increasing willingness to allow the use of alternative cleanup technologies. Insurers, hoping to monitor environmental claims more carefully, are also creating departments that focus only on environmental claims remediation.
