Taking a broader view of retirement security

Article Abstract:

The growing costs of employer-sponsored health insurance and the fund shortage of Medicare may soon force employees to shoulder a large portion of their long term care insurance spending. Medicare is so heavily burdened that is its estimated that by 2030, Medicare's spending will account for 7.5% of the gross domestic product, spending $1.5 tril more than its has received. Legislators and employee health benefits professionals agree that employees will have to deduct more of long term care spending from their pockets, as the government and employer find it harder to provide long term care funds.

Economic security on the political agenda

Article Abstract:

Election candidates will likely use as political agenda the economic security issues covered by legislative bills. These bills covering minimum wage, tax relief and pension security were issued amidst mounting public concern over economic security due to corporate downsizings. They may no longer be enacted into law because of time and financial constraints on the part of the legislature but they will likely be used in political campaigns.

Section 125 cafeteria plans: more attractive for purchasing supplemental life insurance

Article Abstract:

The new Table 1 rates for Section 125 cafeteria plans are discussed. Advice is presented on deciding whether to alter a Section 125 program to move additional group term coverage into or out from under Section 79 or Section 125.
