The future of the agent

Article Abstract:

Changes are looming for insurance agents throughout the country, as the industry adapts to bigger changes. As agents face evolving work relationships with carriers that will give them greater independence, they also must adjust to technological innovations and the need to establish links with other financial professionals. A securities license is also required as the public's awareness of investments increases and concern about outliving savings intensifies. Affiliation with an independent marketing group will also be helpful, as some carriers will scale back their support for career agents.

Agents and companies can establish World Wide Web sites to market their products and services as well as provide interactive insurance needs analysis. Selling insurance still involves strong agent-customer relationships, but technology can change the way agents and companies handle customer service and transaction processing.
