A liberal vision for the US-Japanese alliance

Article Abstract:

The US and Japan must attempt to pattern their alliance after the US-UK's close, balanced and principle-based relationship to attain a useful and long-lasting relationship. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces must expand their role across a wide range of military missions. Japan and the US are also urged to adopt a liberal vision which could help strengthen their relations with China and provide an appropriate framework for a policy of engagement.
