America's predicament

Article Abstract:

Americans living with the feeling that they are viewed as saviors in countries like Afghanistan as well as Iraq will be surprised to know that they are loathed, not only by the residents of these countries but also by many people in other parts of the world. US President Bush's victory in the 2004 elections does not augur well for many, including America's most trusted allies in the war against terror but both the US as well as the allies will have to make a fresh start if there is to be an end to all the bloodshed around the world.

American power and allied restraint: Lessons of Iraq

Article Abstract:

The United States of America has lost its credibility in Europe due to failure in Iraq and it is time that American leaders allow themselves to be restrained by international opinion. In order for United States to restore its fallen position, Europe can offer capacity, legitimacy and restraint, but for it to work successfully the allies need to offer plausible policies that serve both European goals and address American concerns.
