Building 'low-intensity' democracy in Haiti: the OAS contribution

Article Abstract:

The phenomena of democracy assistance are explored by examining Organization of American States (OAS) efforts to restore and promote democracy in Haiti between 1990 and 2000. The study concluded that marked contradictions emerged as the organization tried top promote a democratic outcome while both supporting and facilitating the workings of a profoundly undemocratic economic and trading system.

Pseudo-democracy in the Muslim world

Article Abstract:

The study investigates the mechanisms of democratization leading to the formation of pseudo-democratic political systems in the contemporary Muslim world. The study concluded that 'pseudo-democracy' is not a downgraded form of liberal democracy but a stepping-stone to building a different kind of democracy.

Pacific Asia after 'Asian values': authoritarianism, d, and 'good governance'

Article Abstract:

The study reveals that Pacific Asia began as an 'imagined community' of developmental dictatorships. Finally middle class-based reformist movements calling for good governance have contributed to the destabilization of the region's new democracies.
