Questioning CSR in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest: The case of Aracruz Celulose SA

Article Abstract:

The article examines negative social and environmental impact of Aracruz Celulose SA, Brazil's largest pulp and paper manufacturer despite it claiming to have implemented formal corporate social responsibility practices, in Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The nature of corporate social responsibility and its claims in developing countries need to be questioned.

The UN Global Compact and substantive equality for women: Revealing a 'well hidden' mandate

United Nation's Global Compact is an initiative taken to address issue heightened gender inequality due to globalization. Despite a strong gender equality mandate and potential to have positive effect, the article explores the reasons for its coming into little effect.

Globalization, extremism and violence in poor countries

Article Abstract:

A comparison of two liberalizing African cases-Egypt and Mauritius-is employed to explain the divergence of globalization in paths. The study concluded that the darker scenario of globalization would more often prevail than the sanguine neoliberal scenario.
