Relief and rehabilitation in Eritrea: lessons and issues

Eritrea's 30-year war of independence with Ethiopia ended in 1991 and its separation in 1993 began to permit recovery from famine, drought, and armed conflict. Renewed conflict between these two nations raises questions about how to preserve peace.

Rehabilitation after armed conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa is too often narrowly defined, short-term, and fragmented. Effective rehabilitation needs to have interacting economic, social, and political aspects.
