Saudi Arabia: The Politics of Education

Article Abstract:

This article examines the Saudi Arabian religious school system. The author maintains that since the September 11th attacks Saudia Arabian Islamic education has been accused of propogating anti-American sentiment and extreme Islamic fundamentalism, and any effort to reform the system, albeit necessary, will be met with fierce resistance.

'The enemy is at the gate': Russia after Beslan

Article Abstract:

The changes that have taken place in Russian domestic and foreign policy after the Beslan hostage crisis of early September 2004 are examined. In order to analyze recent changes, the policy framework put in place during Putin's first term is discussed to strengthen the state and to build a more favorable external environment.

Blair's project aims to achieve authority for labor, by blending free market policies with a concern for social structure. Blair's domestic agenda has more in common with ThatcherEs than with either social democracy or One Nation Toryism.
