The politics of mnemonics: History in the debate over Taiwan's status

Article Abstract:

Taiwan offer scholars and opportunity to examine nation-building in progress, while presenting a challenge to policymakers. The debate among those who perceive Taiwan as a Chinese province, a nascent republic, or something in between, which highlights the mutually reinforcing relationship between history, the nation, and contemporary political agendas, is presented.
