The ultimate test case: can Europe and America forge a joint strategy for the wider Middle East?

Article Abstract:

The importance of an alliance between the European Union and the United States for action against the Middle East is discussed. The potential transatlantic strategy between United States-Europe in the Middle East is suggested where Europe must be more strategically daring while America must be more politically astute.

America as a European power: the end of empire by integration?

Article Abstract:

The U.S. attained the status of a 'European power' through a strategy of 'empire by integration', envisaging a collectively powerful Europe as fundamental to the health of its important security alliance. The U.S. and Europe are surprisingly close to agreement on ends for the international order.

From crisis to catharsis: ESDP after Iraq

The undermining of the European security and defense policy (ESDP) due to the intra-European discord over the war in Iraq is discussed. The shifting nature of relations between Europe and the United States during the Iraq crisis is examined.
