Whither Aceh?

Article Abstract:

This article examines the economic development of Aceh, Indonesia during the Suharto regime. The author argues poverty stricken Aceh developed into a very wealthy area during Suharto's regime, however, the residents claimed they did not benefit from the economic growth and responded by supporting the Free Aceh Movement, which fueled Suharto's human rights violations and created a conflict that still continues.

The break-up of Indonesia? Nationalism after decolonisation and the limits of the nation-state in post-cold war Southeast Asia

Article Abstract:

This article examines the crisis in Indonesia following the dismantling of the Suharto regime and the Asian economic crisis. The author focuses on secessionist movements that have risen from the crisis in East Timor, Irian Jaya, and Aceh and argues the movements grew quickly in a reaction against the nation-building strategies of the brutally violent Suharto government.

Coalitions, convergence and corporate governance reform in Indonesia

Article Abstract:

An argument that Indonesia's corporate governance system is unlikely to converge on the outsider model of corporate governance is presented.
