A lawyer's juggling act; Theodore R. Tetzlaff is a general counsel - and a law firm partner

Article Abstract:

Theodore R. Teztlaff is a partner at Chicago's Jenner and Block and general counsel to Houston's Tenneco Inc. The law firm job came first, and he came by his corporate counsel job due to a friendship developed with Tenneco CEO Michael H. Walsh while he worked as of counsel to the firm. Some critics believe there is an implicit conflict of interest in such a situation, but Tetzlaff and his employers feel otherwise, saying he receives no part of any Tenneco revenue coming to Jenner and Block.

Gary L. Fairchild, former managing partner of Winston and Strawn, has pleaded guilty to charges related to his embezzlement of about 3 4 of a million dollars from the law firm and five clients over almost a decade. Acquitted lawyers sue Texaco; malicious prosecution, they say, is company tactic

Article Abstract:

Law firm Dewey Ballentine and oil Giant Texaco claimed they were not responsible for the felony indictment of attorney C. Duffy Buchanan. Buchanan, citing Dewey Ballentine's tactics in litigation over a Texaco refinery explosion, alleged malicious prosecution in a suit filed in June 1997. Buchanan's representation of thousands of plaintiffs claiming explosion-related injuries led to charges of insurance fraud, although he was subsequently acquitted.
