A parent's moving checklist; sell and buy house, calll mover, seek court's permission

Article Abstract:

Fathers' rights groups have focused on post-divorce relocation, and such groups are gaining sympathy from state legislators. A Louisiana relocation statute which puts the burden on the moving parent to show the change was suggested in good faith and would be in the children's best interest has attracted praise from some for its promotion of fathers' rights and some criticism for restricting womens' ability to start new lives. The Louisiana law was based on a model drafted by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Tried and tried again; defense lawyers say the D.A. went too far prosecuting a Louisiana man five times for murder

Article Abstract:

Members of the defense bar complain that prosecutorial zeal has gone too far when the same defendant is prosecuted multiple times for the same crime, and that acquittal and double jeopardy should attach in such cases. Although rare, fourth and fifth trials for one crime are not unprecedented, and several examples are listed.

Cajun stew brewing; a political corruption trial is old hat in Louisiana, but the silence ordered by a federal court is new

Article Abstract:

A gag order by the US Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in the trial of Louisiana insurance commissioner James H Brown and former state governor Edwin Edwards are discussed. Brown claims the order violates his right of free speech in his re-election campaign, and the order is also unfavorable to the media.
