Adjudicated health: incarcerated women and the social construction of health

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that the social construction of health directs the adjudication of health in women's prisons. Topics include the correlation between access to medical care and prisoner behavior, and the failure to address less demonstrable health issues such as psychiatric conditions.

Waiting to be caught: the devolution of health for women newly released from jail

This article discusses the health and social experiences of women recently released from prison. The author argues the women experienced a downward momentum during their transition period regarding their health, economic status, and general social functioning.

The perception of gangs as a problem in nonmetropolitan areas

This study discusses the perspective of gangs by police forces in nonmetropolitan areas. The author maintains the perception of rural gangs is that they are short-lived and engaged in only minor delinquency.
