Beyond 'Built to Last' ... stakeholder relations in "built-to-last" companies

Principles discussed in the book 'Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies' by James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras can be extended to show that the most successful companies link stakeholders to them through corporate social performance. Visionary companies create and share core ideologies that remain relatively unchanged for long periods.

Company practice is increasingly assessed as an aspect of social investment. Social investments can take the form of screening company practices, using shareholder resolutions to promote change, developing disadvantaged areas, and funding small ventures for proactive social gains.
