Disappearance of low-cost term plans stalled

Article Abstract:

Implementation of the "Valuation of Life Insurance Policies Model Regulation," developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, has been slowed because some state insurance commissioners are unwilling to accept the rules. The model regulation would require larger reserves for guaranteed premium policies and would require higher premiums for longer policies. Term rates for guaranteed premium policies have been decreasing, but the insurer may be able to raise premiums up to the maximum specified in the policy.

Most low-cost term plans will soon disappear

Article Abstract:

The National Ass'n of Insurance Commissioners has developed model regulations governing life insurance that will likely reduce the availability of term policies with level-guarantee periods. New mortality tables have been developed, and the standards for qualifying for preferred rates have been made more stringent. People wishing to purchase term life insurance for guaranteed periods should do so before the end of 1995.
