Matter-management software now available online; web-based software allows law firms to easily pull together data from multiple sources

Article Abstract:

Issues regarding the availability of matter-management software online are discussed. Unlike traditional matter-management tools, the Web portal provides the interface that ties all relevant matter data together. Matter-management portals reduce complexity greatly and are much more flexible than traditional desktop tools.

Beyond legal research and into records; law librarians not only help attorneys find cases, but also can support a litigator's document needs before and during trial

Article Abstract:

The role law firm librarians can play in finding and providing documents needed by the litigators while they are at trial is discussed. A librarian's organization and classification skills can be used in the management of client records and retrieving these when needed. Skills needed by records managers are discussed.

Researching an expert's background; law librarians can be an invaluable aid to a litigator in tracking down non-legal information about witnesses before trial

Article Abstract:

The role law librarians can play in researching non-legal information about witnesses before trial is discussed. Information about the other side's expert witness is particularly important at diminishing credibility, and knowing the expert's educational background can help the litigator decide on the best approach for cross-examination.
