Case against ex-gov embarrasses an AG; prosecutions shed unwanted light on tactics of R.I. office. How did notebooks show up?

Article Abstract:

A collapsing case against former RI Gov Edward D DiPrete and his son Dennis threatens the career of two-term state attorney general Jeffrey B Pine. His office was already wracked by misconduct within his prominent drug strike force, now under state and federal investigation. Now new admissions come each day from prosecutors who say they failed to turn over to the DiPretes evidence the defense says is favorable. Some 30 boxes of documents were turned over 11 months after the AG's office told the judge there was no more.

Top R.I. judge faces ethics cases; Supreme Court justice once vowed reform

Article Abstract:

Justice Thomas F. Fay of the Rhode Island Supreme Court has been charged with violation of a state ethics law for alleged steering of arbitration work to a lawyer-acquaintance. He originally took his place on the bench in 1986 with a pledge to recoup the court's integrity. While the judge has pleaded not guilty to the charges, he has, under pressure from the governor, temporarily stepped down from the state's high court.
