Clinton's a surprising tort reformer; still, trial lawyers welcome him as a conquering hero

Article Abstract:

Pres Bill Clinton's mixed record as a tort reformer is discussed, which includes signing a large group of bills limiting the remedies of injured parties and lawyers in cases involving certain products, and in securities fraud, but also turning a deaf ear to some tort reformers.

Chins are up at ATLA conference; trial lawyers talk tough in Montreal

Article Abstract:

The Ass'n of Trial Lawyers of America conference for 2001 is discussed. Although greatly disappointed by George W. Bush's election as president and his support for tort reform, the patients' bill of rights may become law this year. Besides health care, the Firestone cases were a hot topic.

Sept. 11 laws raise fears of tort reform; is Ground Zero a slippery slope?

Article Abstract:

Tort reform fears raised among plaintiffs' lawyers by many of the antiterrorism laws passed after 2001's World Trade Center and Pentagon Attacks are discussed. These include limits on victims' rights to sue airlines, airplane-makers and airports.
