Community-based AIDS organizations and the state: dilemmas of dependence

Article Abstract:

Government funding of community-based AIDS service organizations (ASOs) has helped in the development of the AIDs help programs in Canada. Flexibility of the ASOs in dealing with social and medical problems has decreased as the ASOs have to adopt a formal financial and administrative system. To overcome these problems it is important for the ASOs to develop a strong administrative system, enhance the role of volunteers and to work along with consumer advisory services and other organizations involved in prevention of spread of AIDS.
