Some lessons taught by the Firestone tire controversy about corporate crisis management are discussed. Corporate lawyers in such situations can be both chief internal strategists and independent investigators, and duties may include identifying all parts of the problem and articulating the proper standard for company action, and facilitating well-informed public relations activities.
