Dear new attorney general ... an open letter

Article Abstract:

Clinton's new attorney general is advised to remember certain principles. He must remember that making sure citizens are safe in their homes and streets is government's most important duty. He must also pursue public corruption while not forgetting that the Department of Justice can and should also be used to further social and economic goals. The career employees of the Justice Department are good sources of advice and wisdom. The Independent Counsel Act should not be jettisoned for there may arise matters the Department of Justice cannot investigate for conflict of interest reasons.

Does whole foods market lack moral fiber?

Article Abstract:

The health food business has moved from its countercultural beginnings to being just another big business. It is a strongly anti-union operation which has been accused of hiring mainly young, single people with no histories of union adherence, little concern about medical insurance, and a substantial turnover rate. The store's refusal to honor the United Farm Workers' grape boycott dramatized its break with the progressive history of the health food business. Union organizers hope to band together with farmworkers and consumers to force Whole Foods to abide by labor standards.

General Foods Roasted over Coffee Buying Policy

Article Abstract:

Coffee accounted for thiry-one per cent of General Food's total sales in 1982. The major suppliers of coffee are El Salvador and Guatemala, whose governments receive half the sale price. The coffee revenues provide financial backing of the governments' human rights violations. The article contends General Foods should purchase coffee in one of other available markets.
