Disability insurance fills a need for buy-sell agreements

Article Abstract:

Owners of close held business enterprises ought to scrutinize the disability provisions of their buy-sell agreements with considerable care and thought since studies show they are four times as likely to become disabled before reaching the age of 65. Such agreements furnish a way by which the shares of these owners may be sold under certain circumstances, including their termination from employment, death or disability. Apart from the consideration of time regarding when the shares must be sold, contingency plans for income for a period of time after the disability has occurred ought to be considered. Disability income insurance can be used to furnish disabled owners much-needed cash before the buy-sell agreement requires the purchase of their ownership interests.
