Disaster planning; achieving long-term benefits from disability insurance

Article Abstract:

Difficult economic times have led some disability insurers to increase rates or alter their contracts with customers, so attorneys should review their disability coverage to be sure of what is covered. Attorneys can usually pick from three kinds of disability coverage. Group long-term disability plans are usually one of the fringe benefits offered by firms to all attorneys and support staff. This is the most limited kind of policy. The terms of group disability plans offered by associations vary. Private disability income plans are the most expensive and provide the best coverage.

Long-term prospects; Fannie Mae switches to third-party ratings in search for reliable title insurance

Article Abstract:

The Federal National Mortgage Assn (FNMA) will as of Mar 1, 1995, no longer maintain its own list of approved title insurance companies. Instead, the agency will require all residential loans to have title insurance from companies with acceptable ratings from independent FNMA-approved ratings agencies. The FNMA took this step to ensure stability in the real estate market, which could be threatened by the ripple effect of bad policies from financially weak companies.
