What Can Stop the Contagion

Article Abstract:

Insurance industry associations support a three point attack on rising health costs. Regulatory efforts should occur at the state level. Rates and services for treatment should be uniform. Wellness programs should be promoted. 1985 will bring significant legislative reform of the Medicare system. Tax legislation is being considered to help fund Medicare. Cost shifting from inadequate Medicare payments to the insurance industry must be controlled. Voluntary cost containment efforts by hospitals is not a long term solution.
