Be paid up when you're laid up; disability insurance can help keep a law practice off the critical list

Article Abstract:

The importance of disability insurance for sole practitioners is discussed. When buying such a policy, lawyers should investigate how a disability is defined, the elimination period, and the amount of the benefit. Self-insuring might be a way to keep the cost of the premiums low.

Random audits of client trust funds to ensure that lawyers comply with state rules and teach them about proper management of client trust funds is discussed. There are 12 states that perform such audits.

Earn a J.D. on your home PC; 'distance learning' online catches on, but full accreditation comes up short

Article Abstract:

Law schools across the US are taking advantage of the Internet by experimenting with distance learning, and Concord University School of Law is one of the few dedicated to online legal education. The ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar is studying proposed changes to the accreditation rules to permit schools to give credit for distance learning, given at the URL www.abanet.org/legaled/distance.html
