Rule of the headhunters

Article Abstract:

Groups of armed young men have been searching Borneo for immigrants from the small island of Madura, killing them with machetes and spears. The Indonesian Army was sent in to restore order and take 16,000 Madurese to safety in Pontianak, the provincial capital. One thousand Madurese were slaughtered by Dayaks in 1996. The Apr, 1999, attacks were carried out by Dayaks and Malays.

First-mover advantage and the speed of competitive entry, 1887-1986

Article Abstract:

The average length of time between the entry of a new product into the marketplace and the appearance of imitations had shrunk by 1986 to 10 percent of its 1887 total. Several reasons for this change are examined. Although the incentive to innovate may not have declined because of this, the importance of patents has probably been increased.

The ugly girl: for Heather Matarazzo, 13, playing a loser in the movies was totally cool

Article Abstract:

Matarazzo enjoyed creating her role of Dawn Wiener, a ugly adolescent in 'Welcome to the Dollhouse.' She worked in the film in 1994 when she was 11, after roles in other productions such as 'Helen Keller.' Matarazzo, while not ugly, can identify with some of the pre-teen woes of Dawn Wiener.
