Happily ever after

Article Abstract:

Firms should carefully consider the important differences in case management software. Large firms need to deploy a solution that will be able to handle a large volume of information and allow a high degree of user collaboration. Smaller firms should plan ahead for future expansion. Firms should be leery of minimum hardware requirements, as they don't generally allow for the performance users will expect. A good rule of thumb is to provide twice the minimum storage and processing power recommended. Some firms opt for a total solution that includes time keeping, billing, and accounting features, whereas some firms need only deploy contact and matter management solutions. Parts two and three of this article provide product specifications (see Chapter II: What's on the Menu? and Chapter III: Just my Size!)

Article Abstract:

iManage's document management software product line enables law firms handle millions of documents over LANs and WANs. The product line is built on a three-tier architecture. The first tier contains the File Server that stores the documents and the SQL database that stores information about the documents. The iManage Content Server comprising the middle tier controls access to the documents. The third tier contains PCs that run iManage's infoRite, which performs document management functions such as searching, tracking a document's history and versioning. New additions to the iManage family are infoLInk and infoLook.

What's up doc?

Article Abstract:

Lawyers have found that document-management systems (DMSs), customized database programs that track and manage every legal document in a company, help them reduce time spent on retrieving documents. A DMS enables the users to give an extended name and input profile to a document. The information is indexed and saved for future retrieval of the document. Favorite DMS programs are World Software's WORLDOX, Hummingbird Communications' DOCS Open and ProLaw and iManage's products. Case histories of the use of DMS by legal firms are presented.
