How much are you worth? For some solos, clients' ability to pay figures into hourly rates

Article Abstract:

Solo practitioners are often confused about what rates they should charge for their work, especially since other lawyers rarely reveal this information. Figuring out a minimum hourly rate that will pay for expenses and a basic salary is often a good start. It can be adjusted up or down depending on clients' financial resources or other factors.

Texas idea takes off; states look to safe haven laws as a protection for abandoned infants

Article Abstract:

A Texas law which took effect in 1999 is discussed which allowed the parent of an unwanted newborn to drop the child off at a designated site or "safe haven" without fear of legal reprisal and with the aim of having the children adopted. At least 31 other states have passed similar laws since the Texas one took effect.

Article Abstract:

The increase in environmental cases, some using mass tort claims, just as was used in recently successful tobacco litigation, is discussed. Industries who failed to admit knowledge of the potential dangers of their products may become defendants in such suits.
