Jumping onto the Linux platform; Corel steps up to the popular operating system with some suite results

Article Abstract:

Corel Corp's attempted incursion on Microsoft's monopoly with the Linux operating system is discussed. The availability of the WordPerfect application on a Linux platform, and the possible integration of Corel Linux with a Windows network, are covered.

Next for Apple: new operating system may be key to computer giant's survival

Article Abstract:

NeXT Software Inc. has been bought by Apple Computer Inc. so that Apple may improve the operating system of its Macintosh computers. Next has the best graphical interface with its NeXTstep system, and any new product may be worth the wait. Law offices using Macintoshes may be interested in the results of this merger.

If the king is dead, then long live ...? Microsoft is a hard act to follow, though some operating systems appear ready

Article Abstract:

The future of mega-corporation products in law offices is discussed in light of the Microsoft antitrust case over its operating system. The trial's outcome may not matter, competition among operating systems may put limits on the mega-corporation. Law firms should examine different systems rather than automatically choosing Microsoft.
