Shootout in the handheld corral: Handspring Visor Deluxe vs. Palm Vx

Article Abstract:

Handspring's $249 Visor Deluxe personal digital assistant (PDA) has a definite price advantage over Palm Computing's $499 Palm Vx Connected Organizer, but the choice depends on what applications the user needs. Both devices have 8MB of RAM, but the Visor Deluxe offers expansion slots for memory modules while the Palm Vx is a sealed unit and its memory cannot be expanded without voiding the warranty. The Palm Vx has a slightly faster processor and utilizes an updated Palm operating system. The Palm Vx is also smaller and lighter, and offers the best display of any Palm-based organizer, but lacks expandability.

Gadgets that come in handy: applications for your Palm

Article Abstract:

Handspring's $199 Visor Deluxe is an excellent product that offers many options. Except for its neon colors (ice, graphite, orange, blue or green), the Visor is similar in appearance and size to a Palm III, and because it uses the Palm OS, it can run Palm applications. The Visor's main differentiator is its Springboard expansion slot, which accommodates various modules and accessories. For example, IDEO's eyemodule2, a digital camera, is described. So is Think Outside's Stowaway keyboard.
