In tribute: Charles Hamilton Houston

Article Abstract:

The 75th anniversary of civil rights pioneer Charles Hamilton Houston's graduation from Harvard Law School was commemorated by a symposium held in Feb 1998. Five essays presented as part of that symposium are presented. Comments include Houston's dedication to the legal processes which he believed could be activated to achieve civil rights goals. Houston was a Harvard Law Review editor, a practicing lawyer, and a Howard Law School professor.

Bella Abzug: a leader of vision and voice

Article Abstract:

Bella Abzug had an impressive and successful 65 year career as a public activist. Her legal career after leaving Columbia Law School began with social reform efforts. She continued these efforts throughout her life, becoming a deservedly recognizable figure in the arena of women's rights. Her Congressional career and work in international forums exhibited her tireless work and committment to social justice.

Dedication to Robert L. Teristi

Article Abstract:

Robert L. Teristi, a member of the Columbia Law Review from 1989 to 1991, died unexpectedly in 1992 at the age of 28. After graduation from Columbia University School of Law, he served as law clerk to Judge Peter K. Leisure of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. Teristi had recently joined the firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, DC.
