The story of Bruce Fredrickson's 23 years of pro bono work on a class-action suit by women victimized by the US Information Agency's discriminatory hiring practices is told. This story ended well, with a record-setting $508 mil settlement.

An immigration Catch-22; 'expedited removal' challenges faces time and standing hurdles

Article Abstract:

The 'expedited removal' procedure is directed at illegal immigration and the statute including this new procedure seeks to ensure swift judicial review by requiring that all challenges to the law be brought no later than 60 days after the INS regulations implementing it take effect.The result of this tight deadline may be the law escaping any judicial review and aliens with legitimate claims may not have much luck.

Is qui tam law unconstitutional? The Supreme Court shows interest in the issue - in about-face

Article Abstract:

Vermont Agency of Natural Resources v. United States, ex rel. Stevens questions the constitutionality of the False Claims Act's qui tam provision, which allows whistleblowing private citizens to file suit, on behalf of the federal government, against contractors that have allegedly defrauded that government. The case is pending before the US Supreme Court.
