Is this woman a threat to lawyers? A resurgene in unauthorized practice complaints is raising questions about whether the court of public opinion will judge lawyers as guardians of the common good or protectors of their own turf

Article Abstract:

Unauthorized practice of law cases have been filed against parent advocates, paralegals, publishers of do-it-yourself legal books and computer software, and against real estate and mortgage brokers. More such claims are being brought by lawyers claiming an interest in accountability and consumer protection, and critics have warned that the aggressive use of such claims may boomerang and damage the public image of the bar. Many cases have been brought against accounting firms whose work was traditionally distinct from law practice.
