Electronic eye on human rights; advocates employ technological advances to publicize abuses worldwide

Article Abstract:

The use lawyers concerned about worldwide human rights abuses make of technology to publicize their work and their issues of concern is discussed. The Internet provides a forum, and probono.net is one example. The site even has a much-used library and aims to lower the barriers to lawyers' interest in this work.

Article Abstract:

The recognition of digital signatures and records as legally binding by the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act of 2000, and that law's encouragement of the use of online contracts, is discussed. This law gives interstate electronic commerce a common legal framework.

The importance of trial lawyers with high-technology cases learning how to translate complex facts into a story understandable to a lay jury is discussed. The importance of a technical expert to these cases is also discussed.
